Set off in a private vehicle with an English-speaking guide on a 4-hour private tour of Nowa Huta, one of the most interesting districts in Krakow. It was established mid twentieth century as an ideal social realist settlement.

Your guide will collect you at your hotel and you will head to Nowa Huta, 10 kilometers east of the city center of Krakow, in a private vehicle.

Learn about Krakow and Poland under the Communist regime by visiting the peculiar neighborhood of Nowa Huta. The first stop of the tour is in the center of Nowa Huta, where an enormous statue of Vladimir Lenin once stood. Plac Centralny (Central Square in English) and Aleja Róż (Roses Avenue) are the two most important streets in Nowa Huta, with gift shops and various milk bars, typical of this district.

Next, drive to Os Wandy 14, the exemplary socialist realism neighborhood and Zeromskiego Park. Then, discover the Nowohuckie Centrum Kultury, an important cultural center, The People’s Theatre and Tadeusz Sendzimir Steelworks, the second largest steel plant in the country, and the main reason Nowa Huta was established. Lastly, visit The Lord’s Ark Church, symbol of Krakow’s resistance to the Communist regime.

Discover the history of Poland during the post-war period, how Stalin died, the collapse of communism and how Krakow has changed since then. Your guide will tell you about the food rationing, censorship, government control of media, and the army.

Once the tour is over, you will be dropped off at your hotel or in the city center, depending on your choice.
