With this free tour of Nowa Huta, you'll walk through a former communist city designed in detail after the Second World War and find out what events marked its history.

Nowa Huta Free Tour

We'll meet at 11 am at Central Square in the Nowa Huta district, located on the outskirts of Krakow. There, we'll start a free tour in which we'll discover how and why this communist city came to be.

We'll start by admiring the five large avenues that lead from the plaza in the shape of a star and learn how this area was built with the metalworkers of the Huta im. T. Sendzimira factory in mind.

We'll walk along Aleja Róż (Avenue of Roses), the area's nerve center and commercial hub where a large statue of Lenin was erected in 1989. The monument reminded the residents of Nowa Huta that socialism was the only thing that mattered, that propaganda was more necessary than religion, and that the ideal citizen should be an obedient person devoted to the system.

Next, we'll check out a local symbol of spiritual resistance: the Lord's Ark Church. This temple symbolizes a part of society's struggle against communism in defense of freedom of worship and is also related to the figure of Pope John Paul II and the Solidarity trade union. We'll tell you all about it on the tour!

Finally, at 1:30 pm, we'll conclude the free tour of Nowa Huta at the starting point.
