On the one hand, Luis is a spectacular guide. You can tell he likes his job and knows what he's talking about. It is one of those people you would invite to a coffee and you would sit down to listen to it. On the other hand, I consider that this tour provides the visitor with a plus of knowledge about data and facts of the communist Krakow, it also shows you places of the time. Without a doubt I recommend it. 10/10.

Communism Tour of Krakow

At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the side gate of St. Mary's Basilica to start a tour that will take you back to the communist era in Krakow. During the guided tour, we'll visit the most important monuments of the communist period.

We'll go back to the end of the German occupation after the Second World War, to the birth of the Polish People's Republic. Walking around the exterior of the Universities of Science and Technology and the University of Agriculture, we'll see sculptures that will give us some clues to the importance of communuism in Krakow and Poland.

What was the way of life of the Polish population during this period, was real socialism ever established in Poland, and did the city improve under this regime? Throughout the tour, our expert guide will answer these and other questions. You'll soon become a real expert on the history of Krakow!

We'll also pass through some areas of the city where the Polish communist regime used various forms of repression against the population, learning in depth about some of the most darkest episodes of history for the people of Krakow.

We'll then visit the headquarters of the Solidarity trade union and some old factories near the city centre. What's more, we'll make a stop at one of Krakow's famous milk bars, one of the most representative symbols of life at that time.

Finally, we'll reach the Jubilat building, the largest supermarket in Krakow during the communist era.
