Holocaust Tour & Eagle Pharmacy Museum
Immerse yourself in the sad history of World War II, explore the Podgórze district and visit the famous Eagle Pharmacy Museum on this Holocaust tour of Krakow.
Holocaust Tour & Eagle Pharmacy Museum
We'll meet at Bohaterów Getta Square at 10 am to start the Holocaust tour of Krakow. In this iconic square we'll take a journey back to the 1940s, when Germany decreed the "racial cleansing" of Krakow. Stories of racism and sadness, but also heroism, will be present on this walking tour of Podgórze.
In Plac Bohaterów Getta, we'll see numerous chairs are arranged in the square. We'll learn what these sculptures symbolise on the day of the tour. Just a few steps from here, we'll see the remains of Krakow's ghetto wall. The wall, which enclosed the district, kept the Jewish population imprisoned inside Podgórze.
Strolling through the streets of the former ghetto, we'll pass former hospitals, the prison and the headquarters of the employment office, where Jews were selected for forced labour in factories such as Optima and Madritsch, which we'll also pass by.
We'll then return to Bohaterów Getta Square, where the famous Eagle Pharmacy, now converted into a museum, is located. Inside, we'll learn about the history of Tadeusz Pankiewicz, the only non-Jewish citizen who lived in the Krakow ghetto. Why was his small pharmacy so important?
We'll end our Holocaust tour of Krakow at 12 midday outside the museum.
